THE MANY (FUNNY) FACES OF STEVEN ISSERLIS

In conversation with the Conservatory's Tang I Shyan.

It is well known that British cellist Steven Isserlis is one of the most expressive musicians on the performing stage today, as evidenced by his magnificent cello recital with Singaporean fortepianist Melvyn Tan in  a programme of Beethoven's sonatas and variations at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory on Thursday (15 November 2012).  Everybody loves to have their pictures taken with him, especially because he gives them a little surprise when they develop their photos and find one of his many funny facial expressions. These come naturally to him, as is his a delightful sense of humour and often biting wit.

Looking rather natural (for once) with OMM violinist Joyce Ng.

Steven Isserlis loves children, and has written several story books for them.

Isserlis meets his match in Chinese-Australian cellist Qin Li-Wei.,  who has several facial expressions of his own.

There's no stopping Isserlis now, as he poses with Mr Tan and Ms Maureen Tan, Melvyn Tan's father and sister.

The two great artists clowning around, and who has the funnier face?

Not to be outdone, Pianomaniac does his own impression of an Isserlis pose.

Here's another one. Hey, who has more follicles?
